Colorado homeowners and business people who want solar power but can’t put a system on their own rooftops soon can buy a share of a “solar garden” instead.
Xcel Energy Inc. (NYSE: XEL) has told state regulators that it hopes to launch its first solar garden — a solar-power system shared by multiple customers — late this fall. “This is a really good way for people who can’t afford solar on their own homes to invest in renewable energies on a communitywide basis,” said Michelle Aguayo, Xcel spokeswoman.
